Dan & Nia’s Wedding at the Waterfront church Swansea, & Oxwich Hotel

As with all our wedding couples we start off with a pre wedding shoot or getting to know you shoot, usually 4-6 weeks before the big day, either in the Studio or on location, this is a great way to get used to having professional images taken by your photographer, and a good time for us to see what you likes or dislike in various image styles.

We got some lovely photos of Nia getting ready , her mum was busy doing the back of the dress up , which can be really difficult! but we got there in the end, with a little help from Joanne!

Every body loved the Band what was playing while they were having food, only a young band , they played from various erra s so there was something for everyone to enjoy & listen to…..

Dan & Nia, pre wedding shoot

Time to catch up on some recent work in our blog.

It was nice to catch up with Dan & Nia, only a few weeks before their wedding !  As the nights were drawing in we decided that the pre wedding shoot should be in our studio, where it was nice & warm.

Nia is a pretty girl so we had some gorgeous images, the camera loved her, Dan took to having images taken like a duck to water.

Katie & Steve

September was a quiet month for weddings but the 10th September saw us covering Katie & Steve’s wedding from the Bridal Prep right through to the first dance.  A long day, but a beautiful day!

The start of the day saw us covering the bridal prep at Katie’s parents house in Birchgrove , we arrived to a nervous mum and dad rushing around making sure that everything was going to plan!

Katie had 3 Bridesmaids who wore purple dresses accompanied by a flower girl in a beautiful white dress.

The bride wasn’t nervous, but we think the nerves started to kick in around about the time when she put her dress on.  Lots of tears from everyone as she looked like a princess, simply beautiful!

We headed to the church in Llansamlet a little earlier than the bride to get some shots of the groom and best man, plus a couple of the page boys in their suits.

Steve was a little nervous by the time Katie walked down the aisle, but it all went to plan with no hiccups!

As the weather was a little damp and the rain started whilst we were in the church we covered some of the shots of the family inside the church.

We headed to Neath Abbey for the post ceremony shoot.  A very popular place for wedding couples! As it was quite damp underfoot Steve carried Katie to where we were taking their images.  It was quite a fun shoot with lots of laughter!

Luckily the rain stopped by the time we arrived at Manor Park for the reception.

We stayed to cover the speeches and the first dance where the best man final job was to burst a huge balloon filled with smaller balloons and confetti!

Although Katie & Steve only got married on the 10th September this year, they have already chosen their images and taken delivery of their beautiful album with 14 x 11 inch prints from Mario Acerbonie Italian wedding albums “Made with Love”

September was a busy month and before we realise October is over too!

The Coach House Clydach was our first call were we attend the christening party of Kelsey Mae, a beautiful little girl just a few months old.  It was a well attended event and the parents asked us to attend to take shots of the friends and family on this memorable occasion so that everyone would have something to remember the day.   As usual at events we set up our mini studio and printed  9” x 6” prints on the day so everybody could take away a lovely memento of the day.

Another event which we love doing each year is the Golf & Archery Tournament at the Grove Golf Club organised by Joanne Popham  for the  James Whale Fund for Kidney Cancer.  We’ve been their preferred photographer for their events now for 2 years!  (We also covered the half marathon last weekend, so we’ll get some photos up from this too!)

At the end of September we photographed the Pre-wedding shoot of Lowrie & Barry who were getting married at the beginning of October at St Mary’s Church in Pontyates.  We did the shoot at Paxton Tower , it was a dry day but quite blustery .  It was a beautiful location with the Paxton Tower and the amazing views over carmarthenshire.  On the big day, although the weather wasn’t great we managed to get to the tower for the post ceremony shot – luckily Lowrie was equipped with her pink umbrella and pink wellies!  (images to follow)

Emma and David’s Wedding – Penderyn (July 2011)

The last weekend of July saw us photographing Emma and David’s wedding at St Cynod’s Church Penderyn.

We’d visited the venue just days before for the pre-wedding shoot which also doubled up as the rehearsal too.  And an interesting one that turned out to be… a little different to the ‘norm’.  We don’t usually do the pre-wedding so close to the wedding itself however Emma and David had busy diaries so it seemed the best option to go with!  It was an evening rehearsal but the sun was still shining!

As the Best Man was late turning up  I was his stand in… they even used our wedding rings!  We didn’t mind!

On the big day we headed up to Penderyn, Aberdare  a popular location for weddings and even thought we are based in Swansea we are quite happy to photograph weddings outside the area – we’re even doing a wedding in Scotland towards the end of the month too we’ll they are a local Swansea couple!

The bridal prep took place at Emma’s mums house, just a few miles away in Hirwaun.  A busy bridal prep with 6 Bridesmaids but a great atmosphere.

When all the bridal party arrived at the church after keeping the Groom on the edge of his seat for 40 min he looked relieved to say the least!   St Cynog’s church was packed with not a spare seat left!

After the ceremony the guests walked to the marquee  in the grounds of the Red lion Inn, Penderyn, where Cwmbach Male Choir were in full voice, there were not a dry eye left in the room, mine included.  This was quite emotional for the family as David’s dad used to be in the choir so it meant so much to them.  We took some lovely shots capturing not just the images but the emotions of Emma, David  and guests with the choir.

Some of our favourite pictures are of the Groom, Bestman and Grandad who all wore their top hats and threw them into the air – we managed to get about 10 action shots !

As there were beautiful views over the Brecon Beacons we couldn’t resist getting a few shots with them in the background!

Nicola and Jason’s Wedding at Norton House, Mumbles

It’s been a busy wedding season for us this year and it has seen us visiting many new venues, one of which we went to at the end  of July for Nicola & Jason’s wedding at Norton House Hotel.  A very beautiful and grand venue in the Mumbles, Swansea!

We visited the venue approx 2-3 weeks before for the pre-wedding shoot and unlike previous years in July, the weather was quite nice and sunny!  With most couples having their photos taken professionally for the first time it can be quite daunting.  Nicola was a little apprehensive however after we’d taken a few shots she soon became more comfortable.  It always helps these days having the digital camera to show the couples what the photos look like… we think Nicola liked them.  We certainly did!

The big day finally arrived and we pulled up to the Norton House on a sunny but windy.  Not bad conditions for a wedding!

The bridal prep took place in the rooms at Norton House which really are beautiful!

The ceremony was lovely… and quite emotional too.

After the ceremony had taken place we headed down to Oystermouth Castle which had reopened just the week before as it had some major refurbishment done. Although the Castle was still having some construction work done we managed to make sure that no scaffolding were in the photos!

More photos were taken back in the grounds of Norton House including those of the guests.

An overall very chilled and relaxed wedding!  And we have to include these couple of shots we got…. there seemed to be a ‘Men in Black’ or ‘Blues Brother’ feel to them don’t you think?!

Cowboys and Indians at The Marriott Hotel, Swansea!

We very often get asked to cover the photography at corporate events – all of which we enjoy doing, but this event with Macmillan Books seems to stand out the most!

They employed an event company to decorate the Marriott and it has to be said, they did an amazing job of incorporating the Cowboy & Indian theme in the function room including a bucking bronco too!

There were some great efforts with the fancy dress from the staff!

Macmillan Books had used our pre payment option and  required of 75 prints  at 9 x 6inch, asking us to pick the 75 images to print from all that we had taken, Ready for the MD to present to the staff,  we printed the images, put them in mounts and sealed them into clear bags all ready for them by 10pm.

RSPCA Dog Show – Sunday 24th July 2011

At Jenkin’s Photography we don’t do JUST weddings, we cover a whole range of photography but one of our favourite annual events is the RSPCA Llys Nini Dog Show in Penllegaer!

We spent the day walking around the show, taking snaps of the dogs (and their owners).   Not the usual dog portraits that we do but it has its advantages as all the dogs were on leads – but on the other hand the show had plenty of distractions which made it all the more interesting!

For every photo we printed on the day (and afterwards on our website) we donated 10% back to the charity.  Many dog owners proudly went away with the photos of their dogs as we were able to print out on the day as we took our full equipped Event trailer along and of course our trusted wireless chip and pin machine!  We’d be lost without it!

One character that brightens up any event is local boy & radio presenter, Kev Johns!  And what a hero he is…. he managed to pack 3 charity events into the day!  Starting off with the Race for Life, then the Dog Show followed by another charity event at TwoCann Cafe in SA1!  The last time we’d spoken with Kev was on the bus at the Swans Promotion Parade!

The dog show raised over £5k on the day – the most they’ve raised at the Dog Show!  And is seems to be getting bigger each year and no wonder as it is a great day out for the family.

Jessica and Paul’s Wedding – Mumbles (July 2011)

Our first wedding in July saw us heading down to Mumbles for Jessica & Paul’s wedding.  A little different from our usual weddings as the reception was to be held at the grounds of  Jessica’s parents in a marquee.

As Jessica and Paul requested that all of the post ceremony photos were to be taken in the grounds surrounding the marquee we visited the week before to do the pre-wedding shoot as we were unsure of how much space we would have and the backdrops etc.  It was a beautiful garden with plenty of choice of scenery!  We also had the pleasure of photographing their son Max too!  Such a lovely little character!

The day of the wedding started at St. Marys Church in Kittle, Pennard where it was quite windy but luckily it was a nice day as it remained dry back at Jessica’s parents house in Mumbles.

Jessica had made a big effort to decorate the marquee herself and also made the cake and table decorations too! And she managed to do all of this whilst studying for her degree in pharmacy plus taking care of Max too!

It was a lovely day.  We’d also like to say a big Thank You to Jessica’s dad who gave us a bottle of champagne before leaving!

Jessica and Paul opted for our CD only option – we ensured that the couple had a good selection of photos including a selection of  black & white plus some spot colouring to bring the colours of the flowers out too!

Angharad and Simon’s Wedding at Manor Park House, Swansea (June 2011)

After a fairly quiet month of June, we finished it off with Angharad and Simon’s wedding at Manor Park House in Clydach, Swansea on Friday 24th June 2011.

We’d met up with Angharad and Simon about a month before for the pre-wedding shoot at Neath Abbey.  We quite like this venue for photography as the stonework is great to shoot and has a range of backdrops.

The big day saw us starting off at Birchgrove at Angharad’s parents for the bridal preparation with her 5 bridesmaids.

The ceremony was originally due to take place at St. Josephs Cathedral however as Father Flock had moved to the St. David’s Catholic Church is Swansea City Centre so did the ceremony!

Just as the ceremony was finishing the rain started to pour down as we headed to Neath Abbey!  As always we never leave the studio without our white umbrellas as we can never predict the weather.  It certainly didn’t spoil the wedding shoot!  We managed to take some great photos and also stay dry!

The rain eased off as we headed to the Manor Park Country House, so we were able to take a few more shots!

We stayed on for the evening reception where we captured the Best Man popping the large balloon full of confetti over the newly weds!  It was over in seconds but we managed to get 15 action shots!

Jenna and Jamie’s Wedding at Jabajak Vineyard, Carmarthenshire (June 2011)

Its always nice to go to a new venue to shoot some newly married couples and June certainly saw a great new venue for us at Jabajak Vineyard in Carmarthenshire, just North of Whitland.  Jabajak is a Five star a-la-carte restaurant with a selection of rooms and suites, and of course the beautiful vineyard.  A venue the couple chose as they wanted something a little bit different and they fell in love with it!  We can certainly see why!

In order for us to prepare for the big day at the new venue and to become more familiar with Jenna and Jamie we visited a few weeks before to do the pre-wedding shoot.  The couple were naturals in front of the camera and we had a great time.

The big day arrived, a few black clouds in the sky but luckily no rain.  Even though the sky was grey, the colour from the sunflowers really helped brighten everything up!

The ceremony was lovely!  An emotional day for everyone.

After the ceremony we ventured out to the Vineyard where we took shots between the vines.  Even though they hadn’t started to produce the fruit, the colours were still beautiful.

We took a walk further down where we captured the Carmarthenshire Valleys in the background.

Word on the ‘grapevine’ is that Jenna and Jamie have been entered into the Country Wedding Magazine Wedding of the Year competition.  We wish them Good Luck for the competition and their future together!

This week at Jenkins Photography, Swansea…

We’ve had an enjoyable couple of weeks at Jenkins Photography.  Last weekend saw us do a pre-wedding shoot at Penderyn.  The couple asked us to attend their wedding rehearsal to take the photos, which saw me having take the role of Best Man (as he was running late) and we even had to use mine and Joanne’s wedding ring!  All in the name of going the extra mile at Jenkins Photography!

Last Thursday saw us revisiting The Family Fund in Blackwood near Cwmbran.  The Family Fun is a project which supplies grants to families with disabled children and supply them with essential items for the home.  Our role was to snap the families with their new items.  It was a pleasure to take the photos as you could see these items made a real difference to the families.

And last week saw us place an order for a slate image for a couple who we photographed a few months ago.  We’re looking forward to getting this delivered as its slightly different from the norm – we know the couple are excited about it too!

Catrin and Gavin’s Wedding at Aberglasney Gardens & Llandelio (June 2011)

June saw us returning to one of our favourite locations, Aberglasney Gardens in Carmarthenshire for Catrin and Gavin’s wedding.  We love taking wedding photographs here as the inside of the house and gardens has the best natural lighting and lots of brickwork which looks great in the photos.

Our first stop was the pre-wedding shoot about 3 weeks prior to the big day to get Catrin and Gavin comfortable in front of the camera.  We took some great photos (even if we do say so our sleves!).  Catrin and Gavin had no problems with having their photos taken and made the shoot quite fun!  Certainly a theme for the rest of the wedding!

On the morning of the wedding we had thunder showers and heavy downfalls.  The weather report said that it would stop by midday and it certainly did, on the way to the ceremony!  It didn’t get Catrin down, she seemed to be having a great time with her bridesmaids.

After the ceremony we headed to Aberglasney Gardens.  The beauty about this place is that no matter what the weather you can still get some great shots! With a little bit of rain here and there we managed to get some more great shots and before we knew it, the sun was back out shining!

The reception took place in the Plough Inn, a boutique hotel in Llandelio. It was the normal proceedings for a wedding reception, that was until the Groom got up to do his speech!  A little different from the norm, he went behind the curtains and reappeared with his trousers in his hands!  This was the gift for his new wife – as apparently, she wears the trousers.  He continued to do his speech in his bright pink boxer shorts!  (Luckily he put them back on – well, after 1 hour!)

We stayed to take more pictures of the guests and requested that they signed the mount with a photo from their pre-wedding shoot!  This always goes down well with the wedding couple!

And to finish we were asked to take a picture of the couple with the band – we’re still not sure if Gavin can actually play the guitar!

We had a great day at the wedding!  Lots of fun and laughter had by all!

Philippa and Gareth’s Wedding at Brecon Castle Hotel (June 2011)

After a quiet month for weddings in May, we started off the month of June returning to the Brecon Castle Hotel and was potentially going to be our first wedding with a member of the Royal family!

Prince Charles had been invited to the wedding of Philippa and Gareth as we are told he visits St. Michael’s church, Myddfai regularly.   Unfortunately Prince Charles RSVP’d informing them he couldn’t attend and wished them all the best for their future.  I’m sure we’ll get to photograph members of the royal family soon!

It was just one week prior we were at the Brecon Castle Hotel photographing a different wedding.  This time saw us photographing Philippa and Gareth’s wedding!  Luckily for the couple the weather was blue skies and white clouds on their big day!

Around 3-4 weeks earlier we met Philippa and Gareth at St Michael’s church where we took the photos at the pre-wedding shoot.  We managed to get some beautiful shots down in the forest as were able to make the most of the natural light.

The couple got married at St. Michael’s church, approx 20 miles from the hotel.  It was a lovely wedding ceremony – with a saxophone and flute playing!

After the ceremony all guests had a group photo in the village square before heading to the new Village Hall and were entertained with Tea, Coffee and welsh cakes while Joanne and I took some shots of the newly weds. I managed to sneak a few welsh cakes for the journey!

On our way back to the hotel the clouds were getting blacker and couldn’t even see the Brecon Beacons and it began to rain.  Luckily the sun came back out after food so we heading back outside for some more shots.

The first dance was great, the couple had obviously had dance classes.  Joanne described it as ‘Elegant and Romantic like out of The King and I’!

Philippa and Gareth asked us to stay for food so we had a quick wash and change in our hotel room (we’d stayed the night before too – perks of the job!) and headed back down to the evening party!

It was a really enjoyable day for all and we look forward to seeing Philippa and Gareth again to collect their album!

Bethan and Gareth’s Wedding at Brecon Castle Hotel (May 2011)

With April being a hectic month for weddings we had just the one wedding in May with a few school proms!

At the end of May we had the pleasure of photographing Bethan and Gareth’s wedding at Brecon Castle Hotel.

Prior to their big day we did the usual pre-wedding shoot on a fairly sunny day down at the hotel and around the grounds.  We were lucky to be able to get some shots by the waterfall but unfortunately as it rained the day before their wedding day we  weren’t able to make it down to the river.  A real shame as the photos we took at the pre-wedding were stunning!

Even though it had been raining the day before the wedding day it managed to stay dry for the day, although a little bit cloudy!  We just about managed to get the Brecon Beacons in the background of a few pics!

It was great to be back with Gareth’s family as we’d photographed his Step Brother’s wedding a couple of years ago.  Always nice to catch up with our customers!

Rachel and Richard’s Wedding (April 2011) – Cowbridge

April certainly was a busy month for us, packing in 9 weddings!  Saturday 30th April saw our last wedding of the month with Rachel & Richard in the beautiful town of Cowbridge.  And what a great wedding to end the month too!

The pre-wedding shoot took place 6 weeks prior to the wedding in the Physic Gardens in Cowbridge which was really quite nice!  The weather was cool and the sun was out!  Rachel and Richard were lots of fun to shoot as they were comfortable in front of the camera.  Never a dull moment and always laughing – which makes taking photos so much easier!

The big day began with the Bridal Prep in Rachel’s parents house in St.Mellons Cardiff.  It was nice to be greeted by familiar faces as we’d done Rachel’s brother’s wedding a couple of years ago.  A nice and calm prep as we all had a cuppa and a chat!  All relaxed, well until the wedding dress went on – the nerves started to show a little but still relatively calm!

The couple got married in a huge church in Butetown, Cardiff ( St. Mary’s church) – it was so big it was more like a cathedral!  As we were allowed to take pictures during the ceremony both Joanne and I had our cameras and were at different parts of the church to capture the precious moments, both at the front of the church and on the way out too!

It was a beautiful ceremony – and not a dry eye in the house!

After the ceremony the guests were dropped back to the Bear Hotel, Cowbridge,  however the newly weds, Joanne and I took a short walk back to the Physic Garden where we’d been for the pre-wedding shoot!

It was lovely and sunny! And we managed to take even more great natural photos of the happy couple!

Back at the Bear Hotel, the wedding party sat down for food around 2.30pm which was followed by an Italian Cake.  A cake Rachel had seen at wedding when she was younger and was baked by an Italian Baker – it had an unusual taste but was delicious!

Once the room was turned around there was yet another cake and a hog roast for the evening!  This time the cake was made by Rachel’s grandmother – we couldn’t make our mind up which one was our favourite!

Rachel & Richard had requested our company for the evening party – we had a great evening with some fantastic company.  A long day as we didn’t get back to Swansea till around 11.30pm but a brilliant day!

Martin and Kayleigh’s Wedding (April 2011) – Gower Golf Club, Swansea

With April coming to a close, we attended our 8th wedding on Friday 29th April at Gower Golf Club, Swansea for Martin & Kayleigh.

Prior to the big day we did the pre-wedding shoot – and for the first time in April as the weather wasn’t great we took the photographs at our studio in Pontardulais.

On the important day, the weather was better than it had been at the pre-wedding shoot – a little bit windy but the sun was shining though!  The big day started off at Kayleigh’s parents house in Swansea where there was lots of bridal prep going on – Make up artisit – bridesmaids – flower girls and generally a full house!  All worth it as Kayleigh looked stunning!

It was great when we arrived at the Golf Club as we were greeted by a few familiar faces as we’d photographed Martin’s brothers wedding back in May 2010.

Martin looked confident in his RAF uniform!

After the ceremony we headed out onto the golf course for some pictures of the married couple!  Martin enjoyed his ride around the course on the golf buggy – a specific request from Martin as he is a keen golfer – even managed a round of golf before the wedding!

Plus a few shots around the lake to pick up their reflections – a great affect!

It was a lovely day and great to be in familiar company too!
